Ludisia discolor 'Ruby', commonly known as Jewel Orchid, is a fantastic, easy going orchid variety. It features dark green leaves with soft purple veins, the shapes of which resemble lightning bolts. The undersides of the leaves and stems are of a beautiful purple/burgundy colour. It produces several spikes of small white flowers.

Size: 12cm pot

Origin: Southeast Asia

Light: Indirect light

Humidity: Moderate

Temperature: 12-25ºC

Watering: Allow the top 2-3cm of the compost to dry between waterings when the plant is actively growing, usually from spring through autumn. Reduce watering frequency in winter if light levels are lower. Don't let it sit in a pool of water, always remove excess water from the pot.

Feeding:Use a half the recommended dose of a high potassium liquid fertilizer during the flowering period and switch to a balanced liquid fertilizer to promote leaf growth. Fertilise every few weeks from spring through autumn, or whenever you can see active growth.

Soil: Equal parts of coco coir, perlite and bark. Orchids don't like dense, compacted soil as they are epiphytic plants, meaning they do not live in soil but attached to trees.

Troubleshooting: .

Tip: This plant is safe for pets and children. Direct sunlight can leave sunburn marks on the leaves, so it is best to keep it away from direct sun.
