Stromanthe are the sturdy cousins of Calatheas. The variety 'Magicstar' is a truly spectacular one. The white speckles or variegation contrast against the dark green and burgundy undersides of the leaves. This plant has robust foliage and is sturdy and easy going.
Size: 12cm diameter x 40cm height
Light: Filtered sun, indirect light
Watering: Keep the compost moist (but not soggy) when the plant is actively growing, usually from spring through autumn. Reduce watering frequency in winter when light levels are lower.
Feeding: Use half the recommended dose of a nitrogen rich liquid fertilizer every few weeks during the plant's active growth period.
Soil: 2 to 1 parts of houseplant potting mix and perlite. You can add a handful or two of coco coir to the mix.
Troubleshooting: Crispy leaf tips may be caused by dry air or mineral buildup in tap water. You can help increase humidity levels with a humidifier, placing several plants close together or using a pebble tray. If you live in an area with hard tap water, you can allow the water to rest in the watering can for several hours before watering.
Tip: This plant is safe around pets, but keep it away from drafts and direct sunlight.
