Tradescantia 'Purple Heart'
Tradescantia pallida 'Purple Heart' has striking dark purple, velvety, fuzzy foliage and produces tiny, inconspicuous, soft purple flowers which only open for a couple days. Commonly known as wandering jew or inch plant, this tradescantia is a popular and easy going, trailing plant.
Size: 12cm diameter
Origin: North East Mexico
Light: Very bright indirect light or filtered sun
Watering: Allow the top 2-3 cm of the soil to dry between waterings while the plant is actively growing, usually from spring through autumn. Reduce watering frequency in winter when light levels are lower.
Feeding: Use half the recommended dose of a balanced liquid fertilizer every 6-8 weeks from spring through summer.
Soil: Tradescantias need well draining soil. You can use multipurpose/houseplant potting mix mixed with perlite and horticultural sand.
Troubleshooting: Tradescantias are fast growers and as they grow they sheld old leaves. This may be the reason that some leaves at the base of the plant turn brown and die. If you like your plant to be neat, trim the old, crispy leaves. A good watering routine may reduce the amount of crispy leaves.
Tip: This plant can be toxic if ingested, so we advise to keep it away from pets and children. This tradescantia will display its best colour when exposed to very bright conditions.
